Wafa Sultan

I was able to listen to one of the most courageous people in the world speak tonight. I was at a lecture by Wafa Sultan. She actually didn't spend very much time talking. She gave a brief summary of her life in Syria and her move to the United States, but was more interested in questions and comments from the audience.

But guess what. From listening to her, I found out that Islam is not really a religion of peace. And that if women were treated like second class citizens in the Arab/Muslim world, that would be two or three steps up from the way they are treated. And ya know what else? According to Islamic law, Muslims can lie to infidels if it advances the cause of Islam. Who knew? None of this was ever reported by the condemners of terrorism in all of its forms at CAIR.

But seriously folks, it was an honor to listen to her speak, and she spoke about things we'd better listen to if we value our values and our freedom. New things I did learn: If a woman or a dog walks past a Muslim man while he is praying, he has to stop, bathe, and then begin his prayers again. She also told us, "I remember hearing as an eight-year-old girl that a woman is nothing but shame. Her marriage will cover up one-tenth of her shame and her grave will cover up the rest of it. Can you imagine, at eight, being consumed by shame just because you are female?". She also told that story here.

One of the things we can do in the battle against the Islamists is to ridicule them. For a culture based on honor, that's probably worse than death. After all, they worship death, but they have no sense of humor.
