Interim Post

I went to a meeting of the Detroit area Jewish Voices for Peace this past Saturday. I've been to busy to write about these morally defective, terror supporting, useful idiot, dhimmis in training, but I hope to get to it this weekend. I'll also be finishing report cards so there are no guarantees.

In the meantime, here's a cartoon I found interesting.

The Embarrassment of Not Getting the Joke

Poor Desiree Cooper of the Detroit Free Press didn't get the joke. Cooper is quite upset that the normally erudite New Yorker magazine didn't fall for Mr. and Mrs. Obama's sanitizing of their image, even though they went through all that trouble of dragging their children into the public eye, using them as campaign fodder, in order to make them seem like the all-American middle class family. For as she says,
Only two weeks ago, the Obamas gave an interview with their two young daughters to help America see them as a typical family.
and
His wife -- who was a recent hit on "The View" wearing a chic summertime frock.
Those are the official party-approved images of the Obamas that we're supposed to keep in our heads, at the risk of being called "racist". They look like regular folks, so they must be just like the rest of us. What woman in the world could possibly be objectionable who is wearing a "chic summertime frock"? We're supposed to forget that Obama has surrounded himself with domestic terrorists, racists, criminals, and various America haters. Not only are they his friends, but they are his advisers, both political and spiritual. Don't we all have people like that among our associates?

But this anti-Obama sentiment is wrong and hateful. And we're not supposed to be disturbed by the fact that a man who wants to become President of the United States doesn't seem to like the United States very much. We have to ignore that though because,
Our country has not yet come to grips with the aftermath of 9/11, our shameful backlash against Muslims, the violation of human and constitutional rights of many probable innocents at Guantanamo Bay, the death of thousands of American troops in an ill-conceived war, and, of course, our long-term dysfunction about race. To heap all of those fears and stereotypes upon the Obamas and call it satire misses a critical step.
Actually, Cooper misses a critical step; removing herself from her fantasy world where Americans are the bad guys and Muslims who are murdering people all over the world are victims of American imperialism, colonialism, etc. Cooper doesn't seem to care much for the U.S. either. She needs to open her eyes to what's really happening in the world and open her mind to the vicious immorality inherent in the jihadist mindset of Islam. They are the ones refusing to live in peace with the rest of the world, and that's been their position for the past 1300 years. But according to Cooper,
The added insult here is the collateral damage done to Muslims. People are upset over how the Obamas have been depicted, but not about how Muslims are once again shown as extremists and terrorists. Instead of shedding light on the religiously biased, xenophobic, racist thinking that persists in America, the New Yorker has served only to reinforce the worst of our irrational thoughts about who the Obamas are, what it means to be Muslim and what will happen if Barack Obama wins the White House.
In light of the over 11,000 terror attacks that have taken place since 9/11, the determination of Muslims all over the world to destroy Israel - because it is a Jewish country, and the changes happening in Europe due to growing Muslims minorities, it's quite rational to be wary of Muslims and Muslim organizations.

And then there's Leonard Pitts. He recognizes the New Yorker cover as satire, but it's those others who don't.
So, as absurd, as over the top, as utterly outlandish as the New Yorker image strikes the more sophisticated among us, there is a large fringe out there for whom it will represent nothing more or less than the sum of their fears.

Indeed, as I sat down to write these words, there beeped into my mailbox an e-mail with this subject line: "WOW, the New Yorker got it exactly right, for once." Said without a trace of irony.

But increasingly, that's who we are in this country: ignorant, irony-impaired and petrified. So maybe we should just cancel the campaign and ask that the last intelligent person turn off the lights when he or she leaves. And bring the last book with you. Nobody here will need it.
See, even though the Left has been foaming at the mouth over this cartoon, Pitts knows that it's really conservatives who are so humor impaired that they don't get the joke. Thanks for the clarification.

Michelle Malkin has reprinted some cartoons that probably didn't offend Desiree Cooper or anybody else on the left for that matter.

Negotiate? How?

Reprinted at Journalista, the news weblog of the Comics Journal, a statement by Abu Omar Al-Baghdadi:
“We say now, to all of you — slaves of the cross and material possessions — that we are a nation blessed by Islam. You will learn how to kneel down in humiliation. You will learn how to officially apologize for your crime against our Prophet Mohammed. We know how best to force you to back down and apologize for your actions. We reserve the right to punish those who committed the crime. If you do not apologize, then your industrial giants will be attacked. Companies such as Ericsson, Scandia, Volvo, Ikea, Electrolux, and others will be legitimate targets. You have been warned… [Additionally], on this day forward, we call for the killing of the cartoon artist Lars who committed these despicable acts against our Prophet Mohammed. We announce a reward of $100,000 for anyone who kills that infidel criminal. The reward shall be $150,000 for anyone who beheads him as well. We also will give $50,000 to anyone who kills the chief editor of that newspaper. O Muslims, you shall seek this reward, ask for forgiveness, and kill these two infidels…”
- from the September 14 statement
by “Abu Omar al-Baghdadi,”
placing a bounty on the head of
Swedish illustrator/cartoonist Lars Vilks
So just how do you negotiate with that? How much of your freedom do want to give up in order to live under the thumb of - excuse me - I mean - in peace with these peaceful, misunderstood Islamofascists? For more, go to Gates of Vienna, the original source of this story.

Doug Marlette

Cartoonist, Doug Marlette was killed in a traffic accident the other day.
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Doug Marlette, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist who recently turned his incisive wit toward a budding career as a novelist, died Tuesday in an auto accident in Mississippi. He was 57.

Marlette, who split his time between Hillsborough and Tulsa, Okla., and was visiting Mississippi to help a group of high school students with the musical version of his syndicated comic strip, "Kudzu." He had just delivered the eulogy at his father's funeral Friday in Charlotte, N.C.
As a political cartoonist, he was an equal opportunity offender, but lately he'd been facing up to the Islamic threat in his cartoons. As a reminder of how powerful a cartoon can be, I swiped my favorite, one that earned him the ire of the "Religion of Peace," and reprinted it below.

More Wages of Appeasement

After all these years and after all of these wars and terrorist attacks, some of our leaders still haven't learned.

Update: Melanie Phillips has more on how absolutely Carter-esque the British are acting in this shameful episode.

The Current Insult to Islam Is . . . A Great Cartoon by Deering

I keep wondering when we in the West will end this stupid pandering to every compliant about every "insult to Islam." Personally, I find much more insulting that our leaders and journalists don't just tell the Islamo-whiners to shut up and start learning to work and play well with others.

Remember boys and girls appeasement doesn't work. They want to enslave and murder us in the name of jihad.

More Cartoon Riots? I doubt It

According to this article the Iranian Holocaust Cartoon Contest has finally arrived. Have Jews around the world started rioting and murdering yet? Have they issued death threats?

Of course not. Only one religion is base enough and unsure of its tenets enough to do that. Only one religion still demands that all the world live by its rules. And they are still in a tizzy over a perceived slight from the Vatican from over a week ago.

I find it interesting that the article's focus is on those Iranians who are appalled by the display.
Spoofing the Holocaust was something that Armin Salami, a German visiting his native Iran, couldn't quite imagine. So he made his way, with a young cousin who never had traveled outside Iran, to a downtown gallery to decide whether art had been used for a political low.

The hallways at the Holocaust International Cartoon Contest, an exhibit of anger, art and revisionist history, were a revelation for Salami, an artist and social worker who moved to Germany 20 years ago. Salami was astounded that anyone in his native land would call the work clever. He was chagrined to hear his college-educated cousin, Laaia, express enthusiasm for what Salami saw as propaganda.

Salami was quick to point out that the history of the Holocaust is not taught in Iranian schools. The slurs sketched out in some of the brightly colored caricatures -- the depiction of gun-toting Israelis with thin, Pinocchio-length noses, hiding behind a barbed-wire fence that spelled the word "Holocaust," or an etching of a man with a Star of David and vampire teeth, slurping blood -- seemed to mystify his cousin.

Not Salami, who lives in the country that spawned the Holocaust and whose leaders are dedicated to admitting how a Nazi government orchestrated mass killing. But his recent tour of the more than 200 cartoons displayed at the private Museum of Palestinian Contemporary Art informed him in a way he hadn't expected: It was another sign to him of how determined Iran is to remain isolated from Western thought.
And we must be reminded that Kofi Anon who regularly supports the Palestinians in their attempted genocide against the Israeli people protested the exhibit. Frankly, I'm not impressed.

The Truth About Israel

It's always been this way for Israel and in today's current moral climate, correctly analyzed by Charles Krauthammer in his column called
Life in an Orwellian Universe, it probably always will be. It's Israel, after all. And it's a country full of Jews. Because of that it's subject to libels that no other country in the world has to put up with.

Not only that, but Jews all over the world are faced with the same hatred. For example, we have the recent incident in Seattle
A lone gunman burst into a Jewish organization in downtown Seattle on Friday, killing one woman and wounding five others in what authorities were calling a hate crime.

The gunman, Naveed Afzal Haq, 31, was arrested without a struggle at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, where the shooting took place. He was later charged by Seattle police with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Haq is a U.S. citizen, police said, and their initial conversation with him by phone while he was inside the building indicated that he was a Muslim.

Police would not disclose the content of the conversation, but Amy Wasser-Simpson, the federation's vice president, told the Seattle Times in a story on its Web site the man got past security at the building and shouted, "I'm a Muslim American; I'm angry at Israel," before he began shooting.

"This was a purposeful, hateful act as far as we know, by an individual acting alone," said Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels at a news conference, adding "This is a crime of hate."

Authorities said they were "taking every precaution" in searching for explosives and additional suspects and were monitoring the city's synagogues and Jewish organizations.

But then we also have to add the Orwellian moral equivalence:

"We are also protecting mosques, because there is always the concern of retaliatory crime," said Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske.
Muslims attack Jews all over the world, but we'd still better guard mosques, because you never know. Yeah, right!

I'm waiting for the terror supporters at CAIR to come out with their typical backlash/Islamophobia warnings, he wasn't a "true Muslim", and the ever popular "We condemn hate/terrorism/violence in all its forms. I don't live that far from Dearborn Michigan, a hotbed of support for Hezbollah, so I will be on my guard.
