Wow, That's Some Open Air Prison Ya Got There

It seems that things are not as desperate as the Hamas-loving, human rights fraud, Israel-haters have been telling us. According to the folks at Jewish Internet Defense Force,

While Hamas continues to complain that Gaza lacks building materials, a luxury mall in Gaza City held its grand opening over the weekend. Among the goods on sale are Israeli men's clothing, and items from Turkey, France, and the United States.

A variety of stores sell cosmetics, clothing, office supplies, toys, shoes, appliances and more. The mall boasts air conditioning and a delivery service.

Hamas has often accused Israel of creating a “siege” by keeping its border crossings to Gaza closed. According to Hamas, Gaza lacks electricity and building supplies.

Despite the bargain prices, Israelis are advised that it is forbidden to enter Gaza.

Lovely, isn't it? Uh, I mean, look at the humiliating circumstances that Gazans are forced to shop under by those oppressive Israelis! Where is the food court for heaven sake? How are those poor oppressed Gazans supposed to gorge on elephant ears? Why, there probably aren't even fitting rooms in which to try on that special bomb vest they are out shopping for. Not that parents would buy them for themselves but as presents for their young martyr-in-training.

Hamas Sends Patients to Israel for Care

Yes, you read that correctly. According to the Israel National News, by way of Sassy Wire,

Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv treats up to 100 patients a month from Gaza, and often Hamas takes the role of middleman between Gaza residents and the Israeli hospital, Ichilov Director Professor Gabi Barabash said Thursday. Barabash spoke to Deputy Minister Ayoub Kara, a resident of the Druze village of Dalyat El Carmel near Haifa, who was touring the hospital and viewing its care for foreign Arab patients.


In addition to caring for patients from Gaza, the Ichilov staff treats many citizens of foreign Arab countries, including those that have no diplomatic ties with Israel. They all receive dedicated care, and the relatives who accompany them are provided with free food and a place to stay, Barabash said.

Kara praised the hospital's care at the end of the tour. Ichilov treats all of its patients equally, he said, but it is not the only one, and hospitals throughout the country send hundreds of people home to Gaza in good health each month after they arrived in Israel suffering from serious ailments.

He condemned Hamas for benefiting from the arrangement while giving nothing in return. “The time has come for Hamas to give us something small in return,” he said, “to release a single son of ours, who has been held for four years with no medical care, in exchange for the hundreds of people whose lives Israel saves every month.”

Kara called on Arab countries to take action: “I call on those Arab countries that are aware of how much we give them when it comes to medicine to call for Gilad Shalit's release as well.” Shalit's release would “make the peace talks much more meaningful,” he added.

Will the world stand up and take notice? Will any of the world-wide league of bullies against Israel bother to acknowledge this?

For a while I was in correspondence with an anti-Israel mailing list. I was put on the list by an Israel hater who asked me never to contact her after I suggested that she read Dershowitz' book, The Case for Israel. I didn't object, but I did return comments in response to the Israel-bashing articles that were sent to me. I also sent unsolicited articles and forwarded emails to the list administrator. I haven't heard from them in a long time. If I still had the email address, I would forward this article. I think they're afraid of me, all 5'9", 145 arthritic pounds of me.

It's easier to hide than it is to face the facts.

Random Takes on Israel

Oh, those poor, poor Gazans! Or at least that's the story we're told.

But in reality,

* While prominent Western media continue to lead their viewers and readers astray with accounts of a non-existent “mass humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza, fancy restaurants (video below) and an Olympic-size swimming pool open there

* Most Israeli towns don’t have Olympic-size swimming pools

* Many Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza live a middle class (and in some cases an upper class) lifestyle that Western journalists refuse to report on because it doesn’t fit with the simplistic story they were sent to write

* If you drop into the Roots Club in Gaza, according to the Lonely Planet guidebook, you can “dine on steak au poivre and chicken cordon bleu” (video, photos below)

And while this video was done for laughs, (make sure you watch the song parody that begins about half way through) there is truth in it. That's what makes good satire.



And finally, here is a Democrat I would vote for if I lived in his district.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) — one of Israel's staunchest defenders in Congress — wants Americans who were aboard the Gaza flotilla ships prosecuted.

On a conference call organized by The Israel Project on Friday, Sherman said that any U.S. citizen aboard the ship should be considered aiding Hamas, an Islamic extremist organization that controls Gaza. The U.S. State Department considers Hamas a foreign terrorist organization.

The online foreign policy publication Lobelog reported:

On a press call hosted by a pro-Israel organization, Rep. Brad Sherman, Democrat of California, told reporters that he intends seek the prosecution of any U.S. citizens who were aboard or involved with the Freedom Flotilla.

“The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 [PDF] makes it absolutely illegal for any American to give food, money, school supplies, paper clips, concrete or weapons to Hamas or any of its officials,” Sherman said on the Israel Project call, conflating Hamas and Gaza’s civilian population. “And so I will be asking the Attorney General to prosecute any American involved in what was clearly an effort to give items of value to a terrorist organization.”

Sherman also said that he plans on working with the Department of Homeland Security to make sure that any non-U.S. citizen involved with or aboard the Flotilla are excluded from entering the U.S.

The one from my district has been in Congress much too long and I have to wonder if he is supporting this stance.

My wife and I were in New York City over the weekend. We walked past an anti-Israel demonstration in Union Square. I was trying to be a good husband and walk right past these Hamas-supporting tools. My wife was a better wife than I was a husband as she let me stop and argue with them for a bit. I didn't press it. I cut my confrontations much shorter than I wanted to. But I appreciate the fact that she let me release some of my anger at these morally deluded fools who have no idea what freedom is, what it isn't, and what we need to do to keep it.

More Anti-Israel Insanity

So the Gaza Flotilla wasn't filled with peace activists after all. Leftard, Israel hating, Hamas supporting, Turkish thugs were lying. What a surprise. For a good run down of the duplicitous violence of the flotilla members visit Solomonia. I came to it by way of Debbie Schlussel. I was actually planning on doing a post today, but not on this. I've been neglecting my blog, and I thought maybe I could get a couple posts up. But then I read of this fiasco with the flotilla right before I left to go the the Memorial Day parade with my daughter.

I've been following it throughout the day, and I wrote three letters to various newspapers in order to express my opinion at the way they've allowed themselves to be manipulated for years by Islamists, whose lies are so transparent, whose hatred is so apparent, one has to wonder how and why the MSM allows itself to be played the way it has been played.

Not Repressive Enough?

Gazans elected the terrorists of Hamas to run their government. Like those who voted for Obama (and no, I'm not comparing the two) they should have known what they were getting, a repressive, dictatorial, terrorist, bunch of thugs. The problem now is that for some, Hamas is not repressive and dictatorial enough. They haven't forced Gazans far enough back to barbarity. They still haven't reached their goal of a seventh century Sharia-inspired Islamic utopia. As the AP relates:

Gaza's Islamic Hamas government on Thursday banned men from working in women's hair salons, the latest step in its campaign to impose strict Islamic customs on Gaza's 1.5 million people.

Since seizing Gaza in 2007, Hamas has taken steps in that direction while avoiding a frontal assault on secularism. The majority of Gaza residents are conservative Muslims, but Hamas is under growing pressure from more radical groups to prove its fundamentalist credentials by imposing ever harsher edicts.

The latest measure irked one of the victims of the ban.

"Next thing you know, they will ban doctors from treating women, and will only let women treat women," said Barakat al-Ghoul, a 44-year-old hairdresser. "Tomorrow, they will ban everything."

No, Barakat, they won't ban everything. They will merely ban everything that makes life enjoyable.

Islamic tradition forbids women from showing their hair to men who are not their husbands or blood relatives. Until now, though, exceptions were made for the eight known male hairdressers in women's salons in Gaza City.

Solution: If they hire gay hairdressers then- oops! Sorry, I forgot.

Fares said Hamas' new ruling takes away one of the last remnants of a more liberal lifestyle in Gaza that flourished decades ago, when the territory had cinemas and bars.

So then why exactly did you vote in Hamas? Is your Islamic Jew-hatred really that strong that you were willing to overlook the fact that Hamas would create more suffering for Gazans than they ever could for Israelis? Did your hatred blind you to the fact that Hamas doesn't care about whether or not you make a living? The fact that you can't, makes it easier for them to recruit your children for jihad. Or in the end, will you find some twisted, irrational way to blame this madness on the fact the Israel is willing to protect its citizens against Hamas?

Since Israel's withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, small ultra-radical Islamic groups have sprung up. Known as Jihadi Salafis, they advocate holy war and a strict, fundamentalist brand of Islam, dismissing Hamas as too pragmatic. They are suspected in dozens of bombings of Internet cafes, music stores and other alleged purveyors of vice. All cinemas and bars closed years ago.

Hamas - too pragmatic? As if Gazan society wasn't dysfunctional enough, there are those who wish to sink further into the abyss. When you accept the kind of hatred espoused by Hamas as part of every day life and as normal within your society, don't be surprised when somebody even crazier and more hate-filled comes along to make your life even more miserable.

And by the way, how much of this dysfunction is paid for with American dollars?

Two Recent Articles

I swiped this first one from Subvet a few days ago. He wasn't looking so I went right in and grabbed it. I also emailed it to the people on my list. There is another article from the Jerusalem Post following this one.

When I first visited the Gaza Strip after the Six Day War, I encountered a territory that bore stark witness to Egyptian aggression, callousness and inhumanity. For 19 long years, the area had been run directly by the Egyptian army. Under a "constitution" drawn up by the Egyptians, all legislative powers were invested in the Egyptian military commander, who controlled the civil administration. All political parties, except one endorsed by the Egyptians, were banned. The military governor also acted as the judiciary, and there was no appeal.

There were no elections. A puppet government automatically ratified all legislation that the governor brought before it. In 1965, even this façade of local autonomy collapsed when the Egyptian army dismissed the legislature.

The secret police probed everywhere. No one was immune from sudden arrest and unlimited imprisonment without trial or, at best, a secret trial. The jails were always full and torture was common. There was official censorship of the press and mail, and telephone lines were regularly tapped.

For nearly 19 years, the inhabitants of the Strip were prohibited from leaving their homes from 9 p.m. until dawn on pain of death. This curfew was enforced by roadblocks. Men between 18 and 40 were prohibited from traveling to Egypt unless they were fortunate enough to secure permits. If they failed to return at the expiration of their permit, the military authorities took steps against their families.

The Egyptians seized property at will, while refugees were prohibited from owning land. Thousands of young refugees were forcibly conscripted into the Egyptian army. Many were sent to fight Gamal Abdel Nasser's war in Yemen; others were sent into Israel to murder, sabotage and disrupt communications.

Three-quarters of the able-bodied were unemployed. Medical and social services were almost nonexistent The Egyptians did nothing to help farmers, create housing or develop industry. The majority of Arabs in the Strip outside the town of Gaza were left to rot, without sewage, running water, electricity or roads.

INDOCTRINATION TO HATRED of Israel started at the very tenderest years. I saw pictures which children had drawn, with the encouragement of their teachers, depicting themselves killing Israeli children. The textbooks dripped venom. One text for the third grade, entitled Arabic Islamic History read: "The Jews are always the same, in every time, every place. They live only in darkness. They secretly plan to do evil; they fight only from hidden places because they are cowards. We must purify holy Palestine from their filth in order to bring peace back to the Arab homeland."

So harsh was the Egyptian rule in Gaza that Radio Mecca broadcast this protest on March 10, 1962:

"We would like to ask Cairo: What is this iron curtain that Abdel Nasser and his cohorts have lowered around Gaza and the refugees there? These are the very methods which the dictator Hitler used in the countries he occupied. Imagine, Arabs, how Nasser (who claims to be the pioneer of Arab nationalism) treats the Arab people of Gaza, who starve while the Egyptian governor and his officers bask in the wealth of the Strip..."

THE ONLY AREA in which the Egyptian army was active, aside from suppressing human rights, was in smuggling. There was a lively trade between its warehouses in Gaza - stuffed with television sets, French perfumes, Italian silks and US whiskey - and Cairo, with the cooperation of top officials in Egypt. Long convoys would arrive in Cairo biweekly loaded with contraband. When the Israeli forces captured Gaza in 1956 they found these warehouses. (Predictably the military governor and his cohorts had skipped with all the savings that Gazans had deposited in local banks.)

Egypt's policy for the Strip was succinctly spelled out by the deputy governor, Muhammad Flafaga, in an interview appearing in the Danish newspaper Aktuelt on February 9, 1967:

Question: Why not send the refugees to other Arab countries? Syria would no doubt be able to absorb a vast number of them. Are you afraid that national bonds with Palestine will be loosened, that the hatred against Israel will vanish if they become ordinary citizens?

Answer: As a matter of fact, you are right. Syria could take all of them, and the problem would be solved. But we do not want that. They are to return to Palestine.

UNRWA reported in 1956: "One of the obstacles to the achievement of the General Assembly's goal of making the refugees self-supporting continues to be the opposition of the governments in the area."

Ralph Galloway, an UNRWA official who quit in frustration, observed bitterly: "The Arab states don't want to solve the refugee problem. They want to keep it as an open sore, as a weapon against Israel. Arab leaders don't give a damn whether the refugees live or die."

Here, as I promised, as a follow up, is another interesting article from the Jerusalem Post. It made me question the sanity of the Israelis. It also made me even angrier at the leftist morons (especially the Jewish useful idiots) who buy into the Israeli "oppressive occupation" and "slow motion genocide" lines that we've been fed by the genocidal, Jew-hating Islamists.

Israel began construction of an underground pipeline on Tuesday that will deliver diesel fuel and cooking oil to the southern Gaza Strip.

The decision to build the pipeline followed the suggestion of the political echelon, the IDF said.

Israeli and Palestinian construction crews will both work on the project, the army added.

"The IDF will continue to work to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip," a statement released on Tuesday said.

Meanwhile on Monday, Kaddum, a Palestinian village adjacent to Kalkilya, was connected to the Israeli national power grid.

The Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria, which oversaw the work, said the new arrangement would lead to "significant change in the lives of 4,000 villagers, who can now frequently use electricity, and who had suffered from cuts due to a past reliance on generators."

The civil administration worked with local Palestinian authorities to construct the link to the power grid, the statement said.

"This step joins a series of steps taken recently... that can significantly increase the quality of life for Palestinians in Judea and Samaria," the civil administration said.

The more the Israelis give, the more the Palestinians demand, and the more the world condemns Israel. This is not a cycle of violence, but it's still a cycle that needs to end.

Calling All Human Rights Advocates

So-called human rights groups are angry at Israel . . . again.

Human-rights activists demanded an independent war-crimes probe after Israel's military cleared itself Wednesday of wrongdoing over civilian deaths in the Gaza war.

Human-rights groups said there is grave suspicion that both Israel and Hamas carelessly put civilians in harm's way -- Hamas by using them as cover and Israel by using disproportionate force in densely populated Gaza.

Since the war ended Jan. 18, calls have been mounting for a war-crimes probe of both sides.

Internal investigators in the IDF have cleared IDF members of wrongdoings. To some, that’s an intolerable stance, as Israel is always at fault. The Palestinian “narrative” is the truth to those in the “human rights” community. It doesn’t matter that there was no massacre in Jenin, the IDF did not kill Mohammed al-Dura, nor were they responsible for the ineptly staged Gaza Beach Tragedy. These self-deluded individuals pay no attention to the even wackier claims of AIDS infected prostitutes being infiltrated into Muslim areas by Israel, Jews creating diseases that discriminate against Muslims, and the old favorite of Jews needing blood for matzos and other Jewish holiday treats. The calls for Israel’s destruction by imams, the fact that Palestinians raise their children on a steady diet of Jew hatred is ignored or excused.

Of course the Israel bashers have gotten more clever in their tactics. Now there is a call for both sides to be investigated. With the insane anti-Israel bias among all of these groups and in the UN, is there any doubt on which side they would find fault? Israel is absolutely correct in ignoring these demands.

Israel will continue to face their wrath, but in return, we who side with Israel must ask why we haven't heard much chatter from these folks who claim that they are concerned with human rights when it comes to the civil war in Sri Lanka that's been going on for the past 26 years.

Hundreds who fled intense fighting in Sri Lanka's war zone were awaiting evacuation from this tiny coastal village Friday as the United Nations reported that nearly 6,500 ethnic Tamil civilians were killed in the last three months.

Civilians told journalists of Tamil Tiger rebels using them as human shields.

At least 6,432 civilians have been killed in the fighting since February and 13,946 wounded, according to a UN document circulated among diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka.

Over 6,000 civilians killed and no outcry?

Will we hear anything but muted denunciations over the murder of two people by the Taliban for the crime of adultery?

Their deaths were squalid, riddled with bullets in a field near their home by Taliban gunmen as the execution was captured on a mobile telephone.

In footage which is being watched with horror by Pakistanis, the couple try to flee when they realise what is about to happen. But a gunman casually shoots the man and then the woman in the back with a burst of gunfire, leaving them bleeding in the dirt.

Moments later, when others in the execution party shout out that they are still alive, he returns to coldly finish them with a few more rounds.

Their "crime" was an alleged affair in their remote mountain village controlled by militants in an area that was only recently under the government's sway. It was the kind of barbarity that has become increasingly familiar across Pakistan as the Taliban tide has spread.

Pakistanis had better be concerned. They could be looking at their future. But that's another post.

The point is that unless it involves Israelis defending themselves against Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, or any of the smaller splinter Islamic terrorist organizations, none of these self appointed champions of human rights can muster up enough outrage to condemn real abuses. When you compare the press coverage of the decades long civil war in Sri Lanka, with that of Israel, you have to conclude that nobody cares how many thousands innocent Tamils are killed or wounded. If The Press and the Palestinian supporting “human rights” groups can’t find a way to condemn Israel for the death of an innocent, that death doesn’t matter.

I'm not talking Barny Frank here. Please read the comments of Representative Trent Franks from Arizona. They are reprinted below in their entirety.

January 9, 2009 – Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) today made the following remarks on the House Floor in support of Israel, in light of the ongoing conflict with Hamas.



Mr. Speaker, the most fundamental purpose for any government is its national defense and the protection of its citizens. I stand here today in heartfelt support for Israel and its right to defend its innocent citizens from the attacks of a relentless enemy that seeks its destruction.

The conflict unfolding in Israel's heartland today is not unfamiliar to the Israeli people. Since its establishment in 1948, the tiny State of Israel— 22 of which could fit into our state of California— has faced enemies on every side that openly oppose its right to exist and actively work to bring about its destruction.

Indeed, Israel has never known a reality where its very existence was not threatened by this insidious ideology called jihad; an ideology so sinister as to make men and women leap for joy at killing their own children in order to be able to kill the children of others— whether that means flying commercial airplanes into the World Trade Center, or sending a Qassam rocket into the side of a bus carrying small children to school.

Mr. Speaker, in Imperial China, there was a terrible form of execution known as death by a thousand cuts. It was an unspeakably cruel demonstration meant to terrify observers into submission. Israel is fighting to stop the "death by a thousand cuts" strategy used by Hamas to inflict constant, incessant destruction and terror on the Israeli citizens— and the nation of Israel has acted nobly for the sake of innocent Israelis as well as innocent Palestinian civilians to justly refuse to allow the bloodletting to continue.

Hamas was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States in 1995, and it is a known proxy of the Iranian regime which openly seeks to see Israel wiped from the face of the earth. The governing charter of Hamas openly calls for the destruction of the State of Israel, with the goal of raising the banner of jihad over every square inch of Israel.

And still time after time, Mr. Speaker, Israel has acted in good faith and has extended gestures of goodwill toward its Palestinian neighbors and Hamas, including its complete disengagement from the Gaza strip in 2005, and its commitment to target only military installations, despite the routine attacks against its own women and children on almost a daily basis.

In all of its conflicts, Israel seeks to minimize civilian causalities; Hamas seeks to maximize them.

Hamas has broken every ceasefire agreement and every honorable rule of war by deliberately embedding their terrorist militants and weapons caches in the homes of private citizens, and in schools, hospitals, and mosques; and Hamas has repeatedly used innocent Palestinian civilians as human shields while deliberately targeting Israeli civilians.

There is no moral equivalence here, Mr. Speaker.

Hamas and Israel are guided by two completely opposite philosophies; one is committed to equality and human dignity under God, and one is committed to a totalitarian ideology of hatred and intolerance. One is devoted to protecting innocent human life, and one commands its destruction.

When a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas last June, Hamas used the opportunity to build up its stockpiles of rockets and other weapons that now threaten approximately one million Israelis.

And now, Mr. Speaker, in a struggle for peace and survival, Israel is once again forced to carry out defensive action against Hamas in order to stop the terrorizing of its innocent civilians.

And once again, certain members of the international community are calling on Israel to exercise "restraint."

Mr. Speaker, if 6000 rockets had fallen on an American city over a space of four years, what would we say to anyone who called upon us to restrain ourselves in and effort to protect our own citizens?

If those same members of the international community who so harshly criticize Israel for its defensive actions had to suffer for one week under these indiscriminate, incessant attacks against their own families and loved ones, as Israel has done for decades, I would submit that the lairs of Hamas would have been made ashes once and for all long ago.

Charles Krauthammer recently wrote in the Washington Post something I wish every world leader could understand. He said, "Some geopolitical conflicts are morally complicated. The Israel-Gaza war is not. It possesses a moral clarity not only rare, but excruciating."

Mr. Speaker, I could not agree with his words more.

If the beleaguered Jewish people have learned anything in their struggles for survival over the millennia against enemies who have sought their complete annihilation, it is, as one Holocaust survivor said, when someone says they intend to kill you, believe them.

Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah stated that, “We have discovered how to hit the Jews where they are most vulnerable. The Jews love life, so that is what we shall take from them. We will win because the Jews love life, and we love death.”

Wael Al-Zarad, a Hamas cleric, said "As Muslims, our blood vengeance against them will only subside with their annihilation..."

And Egyptian Cleric Safwat Higazi gave this mandate to jihadists on Hamas TV: "...We say to you: Dispatch those sons of apes and pigs to the Hellfire on the wings of the Qassam rockets. Jihad is our path... This is our strategic option, and not peace. ...They [the Jews] deserve to be killed. They deserve to die. You should not care if you hit a man, a woman, or a child. ...Destroy... everything...."

What horrifying words, Mr. Speaker, even when we hear them in the safe enclaves of our own homes and work places in America. But for the people of Israel, such words mean terror and death.

Mr. Speaker, America's enemies and Israel's enemies are the same. Both of us face the reality of radical Islamic jihadists, who would see our nations wiped from the face of the earth. Both of nations have been struck deeply, and in Israel's case, repeatedly, by this same evil ideology, that murdered Olympic athletes in 1972, that took American hostages in Iran, that murdered Marines in their barracks in 1993, that bombed the World Trade Center in 1993, Riyadh in 1995, the Khobar Towers in 1996, the embassy in 1998, and the USS Cole in 2000. And then, Mr. Speaker, this murderess ideology massacred nearly 3,000 Americans on September 11.

And this enemy makes little distinction between those who support Israel, and Israel itself. For that reason, Mr. Speaker, we must realize that an attack on Israel is an attack on America and freedom itself.

Listen to the words of Sheikh Ahmad Bahr, Acting Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council. He said, "America and Israel will be annihilated ....kill them all, down to the very last one."

Mr. Speaker, any policy of the United Nations or the United States must articulate three concepts as prerequisites to any agreement reached between Israel and Hamas. It must reject any moral equivalence between Hamas and Israel; it must place the blame for this current conflict squarely on the shoulders of Hamas; and it must clearly restate that America's commitment to the State of Israel remains unshakeable.

We stand with Israel not as Republicans, not as Democrats, but as Americans and fellow members of the human family, equal heirs of those unalienable gifts of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which we recognize as basic human freedoms. We stand with the innocent people of Israel who have been terrorized on a daily basis, some for as long as they can remember— and we also stand with the courageous Palestinian souls who also long for freedom and peace with their Israeli neighbors.

Mr. Speaker, President Harry Truman, who formally recognized the State of Israel only 11 minutes after Israel had declared its independence, said: "I had faith in Israel before it was established, I have faith in it now. I believe it has a glorious future before it—not just another sovereign nation, but as an embodiment of the great ideals of our civilization."Mr. Speaker, we recognize those words to be true and believe that the cause of liberty will prevail in the land of Israel as it has before; and that Israel does indeed have a glorious future yet before it.

Throughout its history the hand of God has been upon Israel, and today we join in solidarity with the State of Israel and its people, with innocent Palestinians, and with all who love peace and freedom, and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

More Love from Gaza

This is a few days old, but according to Carolyn Glick, and ignored by the Hamas terrorist-loving MSM, Hamas has legalized crucifixion for certain crimes.

On Tuesday, Hamas legislators marked the Christmas season by passing a Shari'a criminal code for the Palestinian Authority. Among other things, it legalizes crucifixion.

Hamas's endorsement of nailing enemies of Islam to crosses came at the same time it renewed its jihad. Here, too, Hamas wanted to make sure that Christians didn't feel neglected as its fighters launched missiles at Jewish day care centers and schools. So on Wednesday, Hamas lobbed a mortar shell at the Erez crossing point into Israel just as a group of Gazan Christians were standing on line waiting to travel to Bethlehem for Christmas.

I'm sure that it's Israel's fault though. How could it be otherwise?

Sympathy for the Devil

As expected because it happens every time Israel takes the gloves off and defends itself, the MSM has decided that the big bad Israelis are hurting the poor defenseless Gazans. As Michael Oren reports,

International's coverage of Saturday's fighting in Gaza concluded at midnight with a rush of images: mangled civilians writhing in the rubble, primitive hospitals overflowing with the wounded, fireballs mushrooming between apartment complexes, the funeral of a Palestinian child. Missing from the montage, however, was even a fleeting glimpse of the tens of thousands of Israelis who spent last night and much of last week in bomb shelters; of the house in Netivot, where a man was killed by a Grad missile; or indeed any of the hundreds of rockets, mortar shells, and other projectiles fired by Hamas since the breakdown of the so-called ceasefire. This was CNN at its unprincipled worst, grossly skewering its coverage of a complex event and deceiving its viewers. Yet Israel should not have been surprised.

What's even more sickening, hypocritical, and downright evil is that, as we all know, there is real
oppression going on in the world. As Nat Hentoff points out,

If Eleanor Roosevelt were still here, she would be enraged and sickened by the utter failure of the United Nations, which she nurtured into being, to stop the continually mounting horrors inflicted on the people of Zimbabwe by its insatiably evil president, Robert Mugabe. While the United Nations just mutters away, in a Dec. 7 lead editorial, the Washington Times got to the rotting core of his rule: "People are starving and compete in the countryside with baboons, jackals and goats for roots and wild fruits; health care has imploded and cholera is on the march as water and sewer systems collapse; and refugees by the millions have left the country." Some of those refugees bring cholera with them to neighboring states.


South Africa keeps shaming itself by continuing only to "mediate" this virulent crisis as if it's possible to mediate relations with a plague. And the 15-nation Southern African Development Community also continues its minuet with deadly Mugabe. Only Botswana and Kenya face the naked truth and call for his removal." Said Mugabe (Associated Press, Dec. 19): "Zimbabwe is mine."

And don't forget other places where innocent people are being slaughtered for one reason or another. But the world can't be bothered to care as Israel must be condemned because those uppity Jews just don't know their place in the world. And it's not just Muslims who expect dhimmi behavior from Israel, most of the rest of the world does too.

Addicted to Stupidity

As I did during the summer of '06, I've been following news reports from Israel for the past two days. Some of it has been from online news services, some has been from bloggers. Of course, the news reports are sympathetic to the Gazans. They are having a rough time of it, watching their Hamas terrorist heroes being swatted like flies, except for the fearless Hamas leaders who are in hiding somewhere, sending out defiant statements by carrier pigeon.

I'd like to feel some sympathy for these people, but I can't. The world community, that is, the U.N., the E.U., the MSM, the Islamic world, NGOs, and "human rights" organizations have turned the so-called Palestinians of Gaza into the most debased society on the planet. Looking at some of the war-torn African societies and the remote tribal areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan, that's saying something. Gazans have spent generations living off the largess of the civilized world, offering nothing in return except demands for more aid and the creation of a terrorist state solely dedicated to the destruction of the neighboring state of Israel. They have a good reason for wanting Israel gone. After all, it is the Jewish state. On the other hand, if they were allowed to erase Israel from the map, the world would need a new scapegoat for the disorders of Islamic society.

In Gaza they raise their children to hate Jews, to admire terrorists who murder Jews, and to aspire to nothing higher than being able to murder Jews themselves. Perhaps I lack proper human emotion, but I can't bring myself to feel sorry for them. When a terrorist "mission" is successful, and Jews are killed, even if the victims are innocent women and children, there is dancing and the passing out of candy in the streets of Gaza. I'm not rejoicing, and I'm betting that nobody in Israel is celebrating the Gazan's pain. It is a horrible situation, and the people of Gaza are nothing more than pawns of the terrorist thugs of Hamas and their masters in Syria and Iran - who deserve all the pain and suffering that Israel is willing to send their way.

Gazans are getting plenty of undeserved sympathy from the usual moral retards who for years have ignored the constant barrage of rockets being shot into Israel, and now are upset with the Israelis for fighting back like they mean it. I linked to this f***ing idiot from Protein Wisdom. He is breathtaking in his stupidity and obvious unwillingness to face the truth that not only is Israel right in striking back, but they should have done this two years ago. If he were the only one, it would be no big deal. But there are more of him than there are of us so we have to fight harder.

In other news of Islamic depravity, some still keep slaves . . . in the United States. The article doesn't say they're Muslims who are the slave owners, but they just happen to come from Egypt, Morocco, and other N. African nations. And their names just happen to be . . . you know. Israel Fights Back

This was the first news report I saw when I logged on this morning.

GAZA — Israeli warplanes and combat helicopters pounded the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing at least 155 people in the bloodiest day for Palestinians in more than 20 years.

Palestinian militants responded with rocket salvoes that killed an Israeli man and wounded several others, medics said.

Black smoke billowed over Gaza City, where the dead and wounded lay scattered on the ground after more than 30 air strikes destroyed several security compounds, including two where Hamas was hosting graduation ceremonies for new recruits.

Among the dead were the Hamas-appointed police chief, Tawfiq Jabber, the head of Hamas's security and protection unit, and the governor of central Gaza, according to medical workers.

Notice if you will, that Israel targeted Hamas members, men who refer to themselves as soldiers, warriors, and fighters. This is in contrast to Hamas and other jihadists who target unarmed men, women, and children.

At the main Gaza City graduation ceremony, uniformed bodies lay in a pile and the wounded writhed in pain, television pictures showed. Rescuers carried those showing signs of life to cars and ambulances, while others tried to revive the unconscious.

This of course was a Hamas graduation ceremony where proud new recruits were getting ready to take their part in murdering Jews.

Were any civilians killed? We don't know yet, but it sounds like Israel did a pretty good job of hitting the terrorist infrastructure. So at least Israel is working to keep civilian casualties as low as possible. However, previous to the Israeli attack,

Israel eased a blockade of the Gaza Strip on Friday but militants there aimed rockets and mortars across the border, one of which misfired and killed two Palestinian girls.

Oops! Somebody's face is red!

About a dozen rockets and mortar bombs were fired from Gaza on Friday. One accidentally struck a northern Gaza house killing two Palestinian sisters, aged five and 13, and wounding a third, Palestinian medics said.

No militant group claimed responsibility. Hamas police said they would investigate.

Now that Israel has dared to fight back for real against the terrorist thugs of Hamas, we can look for the usual calls for restraint (already issued by Egypt), condemnations from the MSM, the U.N., the E.U., "human rights" groups, and other terror supporters. Also, look for these same idiots to give moral equivalency to Israel, who has targeted self-described soldiers, and Hamas, who sows terror by targeting innocents.

The fun never ends.


UPDATE Unfortunately, some women and children were killed. All of these deaths are the fault of Hamas, as they are the ones who absolutely refuse to live in peace and who continue to hold the citizens of Gaza hostage.

I forgot one recycled warning:

Aid groups said they feared the Israeli operation could fuel a humanitarian crisis in the impoverished coastal enclave, home to 1.5 million Palestinians, half of them dependent on food aid.

Again? It hasn't happened yet.

Peace in Gaza?

Time Magazine ran a puff piece on the new Hamas utopia in Gaza.

The rule of law has returned to Gaza. Just two months ago, this beachfront slice of sand dunes and concrete jungles, home to about 1.5 million Palestinians, was one of the most dangerous places on earth. In June, after a few days of internecine warfare, Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, took control of Gaza from its rival, Fatah. Since then, Gaza has been under siege. Almost all shipments except for basic humanitarian supplies are barred from entering, and almost nothing comes out. The blockade is part of an Israeli and American strategy to isolate Hamas in the hope that Palestinians will turn away from its Islamist leaders, who have never recognized Israel, and toward Fatah, which is willing to restart the peace process. So far, the plan isn't working. With a free hand to govern as it pleases, Hamas is building popular support and military capability that may well outlast the international blockade.

Security is key to support for Hamas. Within a week of the takeover, crime, drug smuggling, tribal clashes and kidnappings had largely disappeared. According to human-rights groups, the ability of the Executive Force to achieve such a result is an indictment of the corruption and criminal collusion at the top of the Fatah-dominated security services that once controlled Gaza. "For the last year and a half, there has been an orchestrated escalation of chaos by some Banana Republic officers to show that Hamas does not have control of Gaza," said Raji Sourani, director of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights. "Gaza became like Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq. Thugs and gangsters were ruling, and some were supported and protected by our own security forces."

As the Gazans can never be held accountable for their self-inflicted misery, any problems are always the fault of Israel.

Yet Gazan business owners like Telbani and el-Helou--practical, apolitical men--are unanimous in their criticism of Israel rather than Hamas for economic problems. "If we are free, we should control our own borders," said el-Helou. "But we do not, so the full responsibility is on the Israeli side." And business leaders point to a paradox of the embargo; it is destroying the only class of Palestinians who looked favorably on Israel. Most of those in commerce speak Hebrew and have--or used to have--Israeli clients, partners and friends. They had once looked forward to the day when there would be no trade barriers between an independent Palestine and an Israel with which it was at peace. "The majority of Gazans do not like Israel," said Amassi Ghazi, the chairman of a company that imports building materials. "Until now, only the private sector had good relations with Israel. So please open the border before all Gaza will be enemies of Israel."

It's the same old story. Gazans can do no wrong. Israel can do no right.

The Detroit Free Press ran this piece of idiocy, supplied by the Israel haters at McClatchy Newspapers.

If you think of the Gaza Strip as a volatile, violent battleground run by fanatic Islamist militants bent on destroying Israel, Hamas wants you to think again.

Think: "Safe, clean and green."

One month after seizing the Gaza Strip in a military rout that shattered brittle Palestinian unity, Hamas is embarking on a radical marketing campaign to promote what it calls "the new face of Gaza."

They call it the "Gaza Riviera."

Hamas banners flutter over Gaza City with a message for aid workers and journalists worried about being kidnapped: "No more threat for our foreign visitors and guests."

Bearded gunmen in blue-gray camouflage uniforms who helped seize control of Gaza now rush to settle routine neighborhood squabbles and family disputes.

Once-deserted Mediterranean beaches are now filled with dozens of families holding picnics to escape the summer heat until long after midnight.

I couldn't help but wonder how Gilad Shalit is enjoying his forced stay in the "Gaza Riviera" after being kidnapped by Hamas over a year ago. Neither McClatchy nor The Free Press thought to ask.

Once again though, the Gazans shoot themselves in the foot by showing their true colors.

Palestinian officials and witnesses say Hamas militiamen detained at least 10 members of the rival Fatah movement after breaking up a wedding and beating guests.

The witnesses said the arrests occurred during overnight marriage celebrations in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun.

Hamas authorities say the wedding guests were singing Fatah nationalist songs in support of Palestinian President and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas, and firing guns into the air.

Hospital workers said at least 10 people were hurt in the confrontation.

Witnesses said that after the incident, about 150 relatives of those arrested staged protests outside Hamas offices in the town. Most of the protesters were women and children.

Hamas militants took control of the Gaza Strip nearly two months ago after a week of deadly street battles with Fatah.

So far neither of the Detroit papers have reported on this embarrassing situation. By the way the wedding crashers video is here.

Mind Games

Sometimes I turn on Free Speech TV. Part of the reason is masochism, part is the need to actually see the arguments those people are making. Are they really as absurd as some on the right say they are? Usually they really are that absurd.

I caught the end of a show called, Every Church a Peace Church. Even before I heard what the two gentlemen on the show were talking about, by brain had turned it into Every Church Appease Church.

So what were they discussing? The damage we are doing in Iraq; "we", being the United States. I suppose they were upset that the United States Armed Forces ended the golden age in Iraq under Saddam. We have to learn to appease the Islamic totalitarian dictators. Appeasement worked against the Nazis, didn't it? And it's certainly worked in the Middle East, with Israel handing over Gaza, allowing it to become a haven for terrorists, and a Jew-free zone.

Oh wait. It's not strictly a Jew-free zone right now, not after some Gazan citizens invited Gilad Shalit to be their special guest in Gaza. Not wanting to be left out however (jealousy?) more Israeli citizens have entered Gaza; the IDF. And now, after working really hard to make sure that Gilad Shalit entered Gaza, the Gazans are upset that he was followed by more members of the Israeli military.

Now the Palestinians are screaming out their stupid, familiar refains of "humanitarian crisis", "collective punishment", "Israeli agression", "crimes against humanity". They are making demands. The IDF and IAF are in their backyard, and they are making demands. Outrageous chutzpah, you say? Not at all. They've become used to Israeli appeasement. They've gotten it in the past; they expect it again. Why not? They've been fighting a war against Israel for 60 years. Militarily they've gotten their asses repeatedly handed to them. But Israel, the Jewish state, based on Jewish values has never fought to crush and humiliate their Muslim enemies. They've never shown the Palestinians that there are consequences for your actions. In fact, truck with food, fuel, other supplies have been allowed to enter Gaza. Again they are shown that unlike the rest of us, they don't have to suffer the consequences of their actions. If they scream loud and long enough, either Israel, the United States, or the United Nations will make it all better.

The rest of the world, including those who should know better, like the EU and the United States have contributed to this mess by their constant defeatist refrain of "restraint". On the few occasions that Israel has been prepared to destroy its enemies, in 1967 and 1973, the world demanded that Israel show restraint. Do Israel's enemies ever face the same demand? And if they did, would they heed it? Not according to the charters of the PLO and Hamas.

So does Olmert have the backbone to demonstrate to the world that Israel is no longer a Palestinian punching bag? Will Israel be allowed to show the rest of the world how to fight against the Islamic terror machine? Or will they once again be reduced to begging a weaker enemy for peace? Will they continue to appease terror? Will they be forced by the legions of terror apologists world wide to continue to appease?

We know the answer, but we also know that Israel has to have the strongest spirit of any nation on this planet to have survived this long. I pray that Israeli spirit stays strong. And I will continue to support Israel in its battle against Islam.

How do You Say "Chutzpuh" in Arabic?

Remember a few months back, when Israel gave the Palestinians in Gaza their dream of a Jew-free society? Remember there was some controversy over millions of dollars worth of greenhouses that produced hundreds of millions of dollars of insect-free produce for both export and domestic use? Remember that instead of destroying the greenhouses that were built and run by Israeli entrepreneurs, Jewish philanthropists paid 14 million dollars to donate these greenhouses to the Palestinians so they could build a productive economy? Remember how some of the greenhouses were trashed in the post ethnic-cleansing celebrations?

Well guess what. Despite their ingenuity in bomb building and death dealing, the Palestinians aren't having much success replicating Israeli results in vegetable growth. What's their solution? According to this article, "Palestinians Boot Jews, Now Beg Them for Help", from WorldNetDaily they are asking for help from the accursed Zionist Crusader pigs, uh, I mean from the Israelis.

Earlier this month, the Palestinians now running the greenhouses reportedly told the Israeli-Palestinian Economic Cooperation Fund they failed in their efforts to grow bug-free produce.

Now the Palestinian owners have asked the United States Agency for International Development, which has been involved in reconstruction efforts in Gaza, to hire former Jewish Gaza greenhouse owners as consultants for their declining vegetable businesses.

What has the response been from the former greenhouse owners?

Asked if she would serve as a consultant for the new Palestinian owners of her former greenhouses, Tucker said, "Probably not. We see the terror coming out of Gaza, coming out of the neighborhood I used to live in, and it's just horrible. Hamas has taken over different parts of Gush Katif and are firing rockets into Israel. I am not saying the Palestinian farmers are involved, but it seems they are not doing enough to stop the terror."

Haderi, who says he already has been asked by U.S. AID to consult on greenhouse technology, said, "I am still thinking about it. It's a very difficult decision."

No, I'm not gloating over this turn of events. I am hoping that the Palestinians use this experience as a "teachable moment" and begin learning how to live in a peaceful society next to Israel. But I predict that they'll fall back on their old, yet highly successful trick of blaming the Jews. That one works every time.

Not Religious Persecution?

The Detroit Free Press, like every other newspaper, I'm sure, ran an editorial on the Israeli withdrawl from Gaza. It was typical, hoping for the best and all that, until the end -

This is not an easy move for the Israelis, who have occupied parts of Gaza for 38 years, since the 1967 Middle East war. Generations are being wrenched from their homes by government edict and relocated, a sadly familiar scenario for Jews through history.

This, however, is not religious persecution but political decision-making that Israeli leaders hope will ultimately preserve a Jewish state in the world.

Who are they trying to kid? How stupid do they think their readers are? For another more intelligent take on this whole miserable situation go to Different River.

Note the double standard here: Arabs have the right to self determination, so Jews living in majority-Arab areas “have to go.” But Arabs living in Jewish-majority areas must be free of discrimination that they are assumed to suffer from. Arabs may not be discriminated against in any way; Jews must be expelled completely.

. . . because nearly everyone seems to say the same thing, but this advocacy of an ethnic/religious double standard is so blithe . . .

. . . they will “not be able to live there without an army to defend them.” In other words, the Arabs are going to murder the Jews living among them, so the Jews have to leave, and furthermore “they probably shouldn’t have gone there in the first place.” If that’s not rewarding violence and blaming the victim, I don’t know what is!

One other hand, since the Jews will not murder the Arabs living among them, they get to stay – but they need extra protection against “discrimination.” Arabs deserve protection from discrimination, but Jews do not deserve protection from murder. If Jews don’t want to be murdered, it’s their responsibility to stay away from Arabs, not Arabs’ responsibility not to murder them. But if Arabs want to live free of discrimination, Jews are obliged to provide such a life.

Arabs can choose to live in either the Israeli or Palestinian zones – but Jews must be prohibited from entering Palestinian zones.

This double-standard, hypocritical view is standard fare in the diplomatic community, the State Department, the European capitals, and academia. Almost everyone I know who is not an ardent Zionist subscribes to this view – and is utterly and completely oblivious to the fact that they are advocating blatant racial/ethnic/religious discrimination against Jews.

Maybe the Free Press doesn't believe it's religious persecution because Jews are being ethnicly cleansed and the acceptance of that has become so mainstream that we're not supposed to be bothered by it anymore. It's merely "politics." And they're only Jews. I think the moral compass at the Free Press has broken, along with moral compasses of so many others.

Have Your Cake, Eat Your Cake, and Have Someone Else Buy Your Cake For You

According to an article running in today's Detroit Free Press,

Palestinians are also concerned about the future of Gaza's economy when the Israelis withdraw, particularly Israeli-owned agricultural businesses. Among matters stil being negotiated are the disposition of Israeli greenhouses - which employ 3,500 Palestinians alone - and other enterprises owned by Israelis, and Palestinian plans for a seaport, an airport and open border crossings.

So the Palestinians in Gaza are, with the blessings of the entire world, going to realize their dream of a Juden-free Gaza. But they still want the fruits of Jewish labor. Which European society of the 1930s and 1940s does that remind you of? Hint: They started WWII. The U.S. fought against them. Another hint: Israel is often compared to them by the brain dead on the left.

The title of the article is, "Land plan is middle ground." I quoted from the print version, which is from the NY Times. The on-line version, though is from The Associated Press. One quote from that article:

Israeli-Palestinian violence has dropped sharply since Sharon and Abbas declared a cease-fire in February, but sporadic fighting has continued.

In an attack Sunday, Palestinian militants ambushed Israeli soldiers along the Gaza-Egypt border. One soldier died and an attacker was killed, the Israeli army said.
